This book is a continuation of Dictionary of Colour Combinations by Wada Sanzō, a Japanese artist and costume and kimono designer. It brings together two of Wada’s publications, originally released between 1935–1936 and in 1938.

The book features 72 colour patterns inspired by the Japanese seasons, along with an additional 165 combinations drawn from early- to mid-twentieth-century graphic, interior, and fashion design. An inspiring reference for anyone engaged in creative work.

Sanzo Wada

The original 6-volume work Haishoku Soukan (The complete collection of color combinations), from which this booklet is derived, was published from 1933 to 1934. The work was compiled in early Showa, which was a turbulent pre-war and post-war period. But it was also a period permeated with a new atmosphere brought on by the influence of western culture.
